TOUR DESCRIPTION

Lhasa, one of the world’s highest cities at 3,650 meters, is a treasure trove of Tibetan history and culture. Nestled on a high plateau and surrounded by peaks ranging from 4,400 to 5,300 meters, Lhasa blends ancient traditions with modern touches. The city’s tour offers a deep dive into Tibetan heritage, highlighting iconic sites such as Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, and Norbulingka Palace.

Surrounded by Marpori ("Red Mountain"), Chakpori ("Iron Mountain"), and Barmari ("Rabbit Mountain"), and traversed by the Lhasa River, the city presents breathtaking landscapes. With moderate temperatures and dry winds, Lhasa is a hub of ancient art and architecture. Visitors can explore holy monasteries, witness Buddhist debates at Sera Monastery, and enjoy panoramic views from Potala Palace.

ITINERARY

  • Upon arrival, meet our TH staff for a transfer to your hotel in Kathmandu’s vibrant Thamel area, known for its shopping, world-class restaurants, pubs, and bakeries. Our guide will provide you with details about your upcoming Cultural & Famed Lhasa City tour.

  • After breakfast, our city and cultural guide will take you on a tour of Kathmandu’s key attractions, including the World Heritage Sites of Pashupatinath Temple, Bouddhanath Stupa, Swayambhunath Stupa, and historic places. Following a day of exploration, return to your hotel to prepare for your upcoming trip to the Cultural & Famed City of Lhasa.

  • Enjoy a scenic hour-long flight over the Himalayas, with views of Mt. Everest and Mt. Makalu. Upon arrival at Gonggar Airport near Lhasa, you will be met by our Tibetan guide and transferred to Lhasa via a newly improved road with tunnels. Check into one of the best available hotels in the historic part of Lhasa, where centuries-old traditions and culture thrive. In the afternoon, visit the Barkhor Market adjacent to Jokhang Temple, the cultural heart of Lhasa.

  • Lhasa, situated at 3,600 meters (12,000 feet), offers an excellent acclimatization period. Your guided tour, led by our expert Tibetan guide, will cover two full days of sightseeing. Explore the Potala Palace, Norbulingka Summer Palace, and the monasteries of Sera and Drepung. Enjoy lunch near your hotel each day.

    Once a forbidden city, Lhasa, though altered by Chinese occupation, retains its original charm. Wander through the Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, and the historic monasteries of Sera and Drepung, which are being rebuilt after the Cultural Revolution.   • After an early breakfast, drive for an hour along the newly constructed highway through scenic tunnels to Gongar Airport. Following immigration formalities, board your Air China flight with spectacular views of Mt. Everest and Mt. Makalu. The hour-long journey offers breathtaking views of the Himalayas. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, Team Himalaya staff will transfer you to your hotel in the vibrant Thamel area

  • We’ve set aside this day for you to relax and explore Kathmandu further. Enjoy a sightseeing tour of key attractions, including the holy Pashupatinath Temple, Bouddhanath (Little Tibet), Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple), and historic palaces and courtyards. Kathmandu Valley is renowned for its World Heritage Sites, offering a rich blend of cultural and historical landmarks. After your tour, return to your hotel to unwind and reflect on your experiences.

  • On your final day in Nepal, enjoy a memorable visit to the Cultural & Famed Lhasa City with Team Himalaya. After immersing yourself in the rich heritage and history of Lhasa, you'll be transferred to the airport for your flight home or onward to your next destination.
