-
Kathmandu city and cultural guide will provide a tour of Kathmandu and places of interest. Kathmandu Valley is full of World Heritage Sites such as the holy Pashupatinath Temple, Bouddhanath (Little Tibet), Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple), monasteries and ancient Kings Palaces. After sightseeing tour, guests are given time to prepare for the Island Peak Trek and Climb.
-
Day 3 begins with an early morning and a short drive to Kathmandu domestic airport for a scenic 35 minute flight to the world famous Lukla Airport. Guests will have time for drinks at Lukla, and breakfast depending on the time of arrival. The trek begins with a 4 hour walk to Phakding, with views of snow-capped peaks of Kusum Kanguru and Kwangde. One night will be spent at Phakding in a trekking lodge.
-
After breakfast, the trek begins with an easy walk beside the river Dudh Kosi. River crossing via suspension bridge, arriving at Monjo village with stunning views of Thermasharkhu Peak and Khumbi-la Mountain. Monjo village also marks entrance into the Sagarmatha National Park. The trek continues through Jorsalle Village where we stop for lunch. The path then follows the river before climbing uphill through Alpine Forest for a few hours, having crossed the Imjaste River via suspension bridge. On a clear day, there is the opportunity to see Mount Everest and Lhotse. Day 5 ends at Namche Bazaar, the Sherpa capital of the Khumbu region, with lodges, pubs, cafes, restaurants and bakeries to visit.
-
It is essential that we have a rest day at this altitude to prevent AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness). There is the opportunity to trek to Hotel Everest View, the highest altitude 5* hotel in the world.
-
The morning starts with a short climb to the ridge above Namche and then on the pleasant path for the first half of the day with countless breathtaking mountain views. The path then follows the downhill slope for an hour to reach our lunch break at Phungi-tenga, located in a gorge near the river Imjatse and in the middle of stunning alpine woodland. The trek continues uphill for 2 hours through beautiful tree lines of rhododendrons and pines with views of snow-capped peaks before reaching the famous Tengboche Monastery (Gomba) for an overnight stop. This scenic spot offers tremendous views of various surrounding peaks including Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Mt. Ama Dablam, Kangtenga, Thermasharkhu, and Kwangde peaks.
-
The morning walk descends to Debuche through beautiful birch-rhododendron and pines forest, from here a nice pleasant walk and then the path leads to crossing a bridge over Imja Khola. From here there is a gentle climb to reach Pangboche, a Sherpa village. The trail then leads slowly through exposed landscapes with superb views of Mt. Ama Dablam (6,856m). We will then reach Pheriche after a 5 hour trek. Pheriche village is situated beneath impressive peaks of Cholatse (6,440m) and Taweche (6,542 m).
-
The morning begins walking through the valley before an uphill to Dugla (Thugla) beneath the Cholatse and Taweche Peaks. Thugla is a nice spot for lunch as there is no lodge until we arrive at Lobuche. From here we climb up to the top of Thugla Pass which has numerous stone monuments for those unfortunate climbers who have died climbing on Mount Everest and other high mountains in this area. The trek continues on the left side of the glacier, finally reaching the cluster of houses at Lobuche for an overnight stop.
-
From Lobuche, we walk towards the world’s highest Mount Everest base camp at 5,367 meters. This is another highlight of this trip before the climb of Island Peak. A short downhill walk brings you to Gorakshep situated below Kalapatthar (5,545m) and Mt. Pumori (7,145m). After a short stop, the trek continues towards Everest Base Camp. After a strenuous walk over rocky terrain , we will reach Everest Base Camp. Time will be spent at Base Camp taking photos, with great views of the Khumbu icefall. We then return back to Gorakshep where we stop overnight.
-
The morning begins with a two hour hike to Kalapatthar viewpoint (5,545m), which offers amazing views of Mount Everest. We then return to Gorakshep before heading to Chukung via Lobuche, trekking through the Imjaste valley. The total trekking time for day 10 is around 6 hours.
-
From Chukhung, the walk to Island Peak Base Camp follows the left bank of Lhotse glacier, having completed a steep uphill hike. We then cross a frozen lake between Lhotse and Imja glaciers to reach Island Peak Base Camp. The afternoon is spent relaxing, with the opportunity to have a short walk around and take in some of the stunning views.
-
Summit day! After final preparations at base camp, the climb begins by crossing the broad open gully and following a snow-covered glacier. The climb heads northwards over snow-covered scree between the glacier and the main top ridge. A steep snow and ice face leads us upwards, gaining 100m in altitude to the top of the summit. This is where dreams become a reality, and incredible views of Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Mt. Ama-Dablam, Mt. Makalu, Chamlang and Baruntse peaks can be seen. After the experience of a lifetime, we then descend along the same route back to base camp.
-
This is a reserve day in case unfavourable weather conditions delay our ascent of Island Peak. The weather is often unpredictable in the Himalayas and we will only ascend Island Peak if it is safe to do so. If all goes well, this day is used on the return trek to Lukla, making each day slightly shorter – allowing more time to enjoy the incredible scenery.
-
The morning begins with a few uphill climbs before reaching Chukhung. After a short break, the trek continues before arriving at Dingboche for an overnight stop, again with incredible views and a sense of achievement, having scaled Island Peak.
-
As we leave Dingboche, there are superb views of Ama Dablam, Nuptse and Lhotse. Much of the day is spent trekking downhill, past the famous Tengboche Monastery and beside the Imjaste River. We continue trekking until we reach Namche Bazaar, and there is the opportunity to visit Hotel Everest View (highest 5* hotel in the world).
-
After a once in a lifetime climb of Island Peak and trek to Everest Base Camp, day 16 is the final day of trekking. We follow the winding trail back to Lukla, past the Sagarmatha National Park entrance, with sections of uphill and downhill. We then have a final meal in Lukla with fellow trekkers, guides and porters.
